Plymouth Church was approached by two major cell carriers about installing antennas in our steeple to improve cell phone coverage in the Belmont Center and Belmont High School area. After establishing a committee to scrutinize the proposal and a supportive vote by the congregation, Plymouth Church entered into an agreement with Verizon.
Throughout this process the benefits to the Belmont community, such as improved reception for first responders in an emergency, have been paramount. We sought input from the community and the Town. We carefully vetted concerns about health issues and have a great deal of data from reputable sources such as the American Cancer Society and World Health Organization to support the safety of this proposal. Some expressed concern about altering our historic building, but we are pleased to share that there will be no changes to the exterior of Plymouth Church.

The American Cancer Society has a useful FAQ on cell antennas and frequencies here, and we also have a map of the location of other cell antennas in the town of Belmont.
