Rev. Andrew Ponder-Williams

Minister

Rev. Andrew Ponder Williams hopes to inspire and engage all people through invitational and intergenerational congregational ministry. He was the Pastor of North Community Church in Marshfield Hills, Massachusetts before moving to Belmont to be the Pastor at Plymouth Congregational Church. Andrew has served congregations along the California Coast, in the Southwest, and in New England.

Andrew has a passion for advocacy and has done so locally, on Capitol Hill, and at the United Nations. He has served on the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society and on the Board of Directors of the United Church of Christ. He currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Thrive Campus Ministry at MIT.

Rev. Andrew completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from Rockhurst University, Jesuit, a Graduate Certificate in Religion, Activism, and Social Justice from Claremont School of Theology, and a Master of Arts Degree in Religious and Public Leadership from Boston University School of Theology. He is currently continuing his studies at Boston College Clough School of Theology and Ministry.

Andrew previously served as a Campus Minister at the University of California, Irvine and then at Arizona State University. He was ordained at Desert Palm UCC in the Southwest Conference of the United Church of Christ. Andrew and his husband Ashton live in Belmont, Massachusetts. He is a vegetarian of 23 years and enjoys exercising and day trips.

Dr. Hugh Hinton

Music Director and Organist

Hugh Hinton began serving Plymouth Congregational Church as music director and organist in 2016. He enjoys a varied musical life as a pianist, organist, choral director, educator, and church musician. He serves as Director of Campus Music Activities at Merrimack College in North Andover, and teaches piano at the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge. A native of Louisiana, he received a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College, and a master’s degree and doctorate in music from New England Conservatory. He holds the Colleague certification in organ from the American Guild of Organists. He is married to Rev. Heather Hinton, ordained in the UCC. They live in Winchester, MA with their son Isaac. He enjoys walking in the Middlesex Fells or anywhere outdoors. He invites all people to take part fully in the musical life of the congregation.

Janet Allen

Church Administrator

Janet Allen has a BA in Psychology from Agnes Scot College, Decatur, GA, and an MST in Mathematics from Boston College. Janet was born in South Texas and spent her early years there before moving with her mother and sister to Coastal Georgia. She enjoys reading, playing computer games, and singing soprano.
