Our Roots
Founded in 1899 as a suburban mission of the Massachusetts Missionary Society, Plymouth Church became an independent congregation by 1934. We stand in a long line of New England Congregational churches, with roots stretching back to the town’s earliest settlers organizing worship in the 1700s. Faith and civic life have always been deeply connected here.
Who We Are Today
We’re a growing multigenerational congregation of around 200 members, with a weekly worship attendance of about 70. We’re energetic, down-to-earth, and deeply committed to following Jesus in real, everyday ways. Our community includes families, singles, elders, newcomers, lifelong residents, and people in every stage of belief and doubt. We show up for each other—and for the world.
Open & Affirming
In 2016, we publicly declared ourselves an Open and Affirming congregation. That means we welcome, celebrate, and include people of every sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression in the full life and ministry of the church. We believe God’s love is wide, and we strive to live that truth in our worship, leadership, weddings, partnerships, and advocacy.
Our Covenant and Mission
We’re a covenantal church, not a creedal one. That means we’re held together by shared promises rather than tests of belief. Our mission is simple:
to know God, grow together, and live out our faith boldly and generously.
We carry that out through worship, study, service, and justice—and by doing life in community.
Music & Worship
Worship at Plymouth is participatory and joyful. We gather every Sunday at 10:30 am (9:30am in summer) in our historic sanctuary, with music that ranges from classic hymns to choral anthems and intergenerational singing. Our music director invites people of all ages and skill levels to participate. Preaching is thoughtful and grounded. Communion is open to all. Children are welcome, wiggly or not.
Outreach & Education
We offer Christian education for children, youth, and adults; fellowship opportunities that build real friendships; and partnerships that serve our neighbors both near and far. As a teaching parish, we also host seminary interns who enrich our life together and help us form the next generation of leaders.
